People with intellectual disabilities are at higher risk to developing mental disorders in comparison to the general population. These disorders may also present themselves in different ways, which can mean they are not properly identified and therefore people do not receive the required support. Diagnosis and subsequent support process can be challenging and complex, especially for people who have severe and profound developmental disabilities.
